Makumu is a fully inclusive Luxury Private Game Lodge situated in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, Hoedspruit. Klaserie Private Nature Reserve is one of the largest private reserves in South Africa and is part of the Greater Kruger National Park.
Makumu Luxury Private Game Lodge is the realisation of the owner’s childhood dream. With support from his family and a dedicated team of creative people, he created the astonishingly beautiful Makumu private game lodge. The lodge is at once welcoming, inviting and relaxing, and surrounds you with the warmth, the earthy colours and the rich textures of Africa.
Accommodation is offered in luxury villas, each with its own unique style and decor. The villas do feature electrical plug points for guests to charge their electronic devices and are lit by soft candlelight. Each room has an overhead fan and a private en-suite.
Situated above the banks of the non-perennial leopard river bed, the lodge’s wooden-decked Boma is primarily used for evening dining. Situated under open African skies surrounded by the gentle flicker of lanterns, candlelight and open fire, listen closely for the far-off roar of the lion, the gentle soughing of the leopard or the hauntingly familiar call of the owl. Boma dining is quiet and intimate and will certainly add to your Makumu experience.
Whether for a cool refreshing swim after a warm night’s sleep, or a dip to escape the hot African sun, the pool at Makumu offers it all. Built as a feature to blend in with the surrounding bushveld, it is a feature for the warm lazy days of summer, originally designed around the needs of the guests’ enjoyment, don’t be surprised by the visiting elephant herds that are known to quench their thirst here during the hot midday temperatures.
Game drives are conducted twice daily or as you prefer in open landrovers with an armed ranger and a shangaan tracker in search of the elusive Big 5 as well as the other small and large wonders of this magnificent stretch of Southern Africa. Game drives are normally conducted early morning and late afternoon.
Game viewing opportunities are everywhere at Makumu. From the early morning bird life, as the sun peeks over the horizon, to our resident warthog family that frequents the lodge lawns during the day and the elephant herds that choose to quench their thirst in our swimming pool, there always exists the possibility of a sighting.
Please note that our conservation levy is not included in the rate and will be charged separately after your reservation has been made.
